If Seeing Is Believing, This Mother Will Make You Believe In POTS

Okay, people! Let’s hear it for Kristen, a fiercely determined young woman who refuses to give up after being diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).

I feel absolutely dumbstruck after reading her blog about her life with POTS. I mean, I guess I’m really showing my age, but I’m still adjusting to the fact that people expose so much of themselves…

Kristen has willingly shared just about every aspect of her life with this frightening syndrome which I actually think is commendable. But, not only has she written about the impact that POTS has had on her life, she’s also posted a highly detailed photographic account of her life—warts and all.

We’ve come a long way alright. I mean, when I was growing up, we didn’t have soap operas this personal on TV! Heck, back then, there was no such thing as Viagra—much less public awareness campaigns about cancer, the big unspoken “C” word!

People didn’t talk about such things!

In this day and age though, where some people expose even the most intimate details of their lives for shock value and ratings—especially with reality shows—I’m always left shaking my head because they’re phonies! They’ve all rehearsed lines from a script that a team of writers (yes, a team of writers!) have crafted. It’s all fake. I guess that’s why they call it “entertainment,” right?

But Kristen? She’s become one of my heroes! I absolutely believe every word she’s shared, her fears, her worries, her anger and resentment. And like they say, pictures don’t lie.

So thank YOU, Kristen, for banging POTS all over social media to help spread awareness about this rare condition. You are simply amazing and one very real advocate who is undoubtedly inspiring us all. You go, Girl!
