What is the Lyme Disease Challenge?

As you know, May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month and we encourage you to participate!

One of my favorite ways to get involved is doing the Lyme Disease Challenge.

Me doing the Lyme Disease Challenge (Source: Jeff Clements Photography). Lyme Disease has 6 times more new cases each year than HIV/AIDS, yet it receives less than 1% of the funding.

I took the Lyme Disease Challenge when I was at my sickest– 89 lbs, POTS heavy, chest pains, nerve pain, joint pain, weakness, extreme fatigue, nausea and vomiting, twitches, brain fog, organ failure, daily fevers, heart palps, vision impairment, headaches (like hit-by-a-truck headaches), and a long list of other symptoms.

Not only was I able to participate, but I was lucky enough to have the best people in the world (my parents) participate while doing our favorite activity: hiking (makes sense).

As you can tell from these photographs, the Lyme Disease Challenge is an easy way to spread Lyme disease awareness!

Here’s what you do:

  • Take a picture or video of you biting into a lime
  • Share info on Lyme disease in your picture, video or tweet
  • Challenge someone else to do it
  • Use the hashtage #LymeDiseaseChallenge

Now it’s your turn! Participate in the Lyme Disease Challenge, use the hashtag #LymeDiseaseChallenge and tweet us @patientworthy! We’ll retweet your awesomeness.
