Why You Should Care About World Rare Disease Day 2017

“Fate whispers to the Warrior, ‘You are not strong enough to withstand the storm.’ The Warrior whispers back, ‘I am the storm.'”

World Rare Disease Day is observed each year on the last day of February to raise awareness about rare diseases, and to champion improved medical treatments and better access for the people they affect.

To be considered “rare,” the disease must have 200,000 or fewer people living with the condition. Multiply that by 7,000–the number of identified rare diseases–and the picture suddenly becomes clearer.

There are A LOT of people who are dealing with illnesses that have no cure, and for the most part, no available treatments.

These people fight each and every day to make their lives work–to get to the next day.

Every one of them is, truly, a Warrior.

This YouTube video celebrates the brave Warriors of the rare disease community.
