Seventeen-year-old, Brooke, diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF), had only one wish.
Inspired by Kevin Durant and his Aunt Pearl shoes designed for cancer awareness, Brooke told the Make-A-Foundation she wanted to work with Kevin Durant to design a shoe that could help spread awareness on CF. Can you believe it? Her wish was denied. I guess the sky is not actually the limit. But our story doesn’t stop there…
At the local Children’s Hospital, Brooke is a patient of Cami Smith, who signed onto social media and posted a few words. Okay, a LOT of words.
Ok folks this is a story near and dear to my heart! One of my most favorite patients EVER has a BIG wish! Brooke is 17…

Her goal? For enough people to “share” the post until it made it’s way to Kevin, himself. If Make-A-Wish couldn’t help Brooke get the word out on CF, maybe Kevin would.
In only two days after posting it, Cami’s post was shared 117,000 times. You better believe Durant got notice.
And on January 8th, Kevin posted a photo of himself to Facebook, holding a pair of shoes up to the camera. Above it, a simple message:
“Hey Brooke. I’m wearing these shoes tonight and will sign them and send to you after the game. You’re an inspiration! Keep up the fight against CF!!”
Wow! How COOL?!
It’s no surprise that Brooke was ecstatic. It just goes to show that ANYTHING is possible. As Brooke’s parents remind her every day, dream big and never give up!
