SUMMARY:FSHD Society's Wellness Hour - Towards Hope
DESCRIPTION:Wellness Hour – Towards Hope\nFebruary 13\, 2023 \nThis month we will be joined by crisis counselors Kylee Helmke and Andrea Morales to discuss mental health issues that affect the FSHD community. Depression is not uncommon\, and too many families have been devastated by suicide. This is a safe\, confidential space to share your experiences. We will discuss what we can do as a community and individuals to help loved ones in crisis. What are warning signs to be aware of? What resources are there to help? \nKylee Helmke says\, “I came to Crisis Text Line in June 2021. I’m currently a Senior Success Coach on the Volunteer Experience team and am the Public Safety Liaison for the organization as well. I graduated from San Diego State University with undergraduate degrees in Psychology & Criminal Justice\, and I have my Masters in Education with an emphasis in Counseling from SDSU as well (Go Aztecs!). Working in the crisis space is challenging\, but is also the most rewarding career I could have hoped for. At the end of the day\, we’re all just walking each other home; knowing that I can walk alongside someone in their moment of crisis is an honor I hold dearly.” \n \nAndrea Morales writes\, “I came to Crisis Text Line in August 2020 as a Bilingual Clinical Supervisor on the Clinical Team. Now\, I’m a Bilingual Success Coach with the Volunteer Experience Team. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of science in Psychology and a minor in English; I then received my Masters of Arts in Legal and Forensic Psychology from The University of California at Irvine. As someone with a long history of lived experience with mental health struggles\, my work here at CTL is something I’m passionate about and something that means a lot to me.” \nThe Wellness Hour is open to everyone in the FSHD community. This is your time to enjoy the company of fellow FSHers\, share challenges\, talk about what works for you\, and feel validated and supported in whatever you may be going through. \nWe will open the Zoom room a half hour early (4:30 pm ET) so members can enjoy an open forum to discuss whatever is on their minds. Rick Whitehead will be on hand to welcome you in. Wellness Hour has become such a popular destination and we never have enough time for everyone to share what’s on their minds\, so we thought we’d try this approach. \nOur monthly Zoom meeting on Wellness is held on the second Monday of each month at 5:00-6:00 pm ET. Each month\, we’ll have a conversation starter topic\, but this is an informal gathering and if the discussion veers off in other directions\, that’s OK! We hope you’ll drop by to enjoy the company of some of the wonderful people in our community. \nTo sign up\, click here.
