Applaud These 3 Institutions Making the World a Better Place

Three cheers! THANK YOU University of Kentucky, Addgene, and University of Pennsylvania

We wait, and wait and wait for research and hope that it will bring discoveries in time. But these three institutions have taken practical steps to speed things along. Just take a look:

Hooray for the University of Kentucky!

Although they have been in the news for their great basketball talent, the University of Kentucky is trying to make headlines in genetic testing breakthroughs. Source: Wikipedia

University of Kentucky Advanced Genetic Technologies Center is seeking to increase the number of individuals skilled in NGS ( Next Generation Sequencing) and the use of MiSeq NGS systems. DNA/RNA sequencing data is not being fully utilized because we need more trained individuals- to do the analysis : So they held a free workshop. Free training , free housing, free meals. Learn more about training opportunities offered at the University of Kentucky.

Hooray for AddGene!

Addgene’s contributions to research through its plasmid depository is one of the many ways the organization is speeding up new discoveries. And check out their Facebook page, some geniuses over there. Source: Addgene.org

AddGene is a non-profit plasmid depository. It makes it possible for research scientists to spend more time researching and less time looking for what they need to research. It saves time and money, so more of what we raise in walks and runs and bakes sales, goes to getting the job done. To learn more about AddGene and consider giving a donation visit their mission page

Hooray for the University of Pennsylvania Institute for Regenerative Medicine!

Penn State’s IRM mission is loud and clear in what it was formed to do “ promote basic discoveries in stem cell biology and regeneration, and to translate those discoveries into new therapies that may alleviate suffering.” We applaud them for not only their ambition, but their actions!

They achieve this audacious feat by bringing together minds and hearts from many disciplines and from many scientists, from all over the world. Almost every week there is a new lecture and a new opportunity to learn something from a different vantage point. It is not enough to just know cell biology, but image informatics, genome editing, and bio engineering! Visit the institute’s page to learn what they are up to next.

Although there are thousands of rare diseases that need new treatments now, we applaud these 3 institutions for taking the charge to get us there.
