What is Absence of Gluteal Muscle?
Patients who are born with Absence of Gluteal Muscle are born without the buttock muscles, also known as the Gluteal Muscle. These patients can also be born missing some of the vertebrae of the back. This is known as Spina bifida occulta.

Absence of Gluteal Muscle is theorized to be caused by an autosomal recessive gene, which means the disease was inherited by getting two mutated genes, one from each parent.
