How the Rendina Family is Working to Fight Cancer

After their own personal struggles with cancer, the Rendina family are working to raise money and awareness to fight the disease. For more information, you can view the source press release here at Accesswire, or take a look at their website by clicking here.

The Family’s Personal Fight with Cancer

Bruce Rendina was a successful real estate developer who was involved in finding new ways to build medical office buildings. In 2005, he received a diagnosis of a cancerous brain tumour. Just seventeen months later, he sadly lost his battle with the aggressive disease.

Only five years later, in February 2011, one of Bruce Rendina’s three sons, Richard, received a diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a rare form of cancer that affects the lymphatic system (a part of the immune system). It typically develops when a type of white blood cell called lymphocytes begin to abnormally multiply and build up in areas of the lymphatic system. This impairs their ability to carry out their normal function of fighting infections, leaving people affected by non-Hodgkin lymphoma more vulnerable to infection.

Richard Rendina did everything he could to make sure he would win his fight against the cancer, including having his case looked over by more doctors, who adjusted his treatment regime. After several cycles of two regimes, he ended his treatment by June of 2011. Richard is now cancer-free, and, along with his brothers Michael and David, helps to run the Rendina Family Foundation.

The Rendina Family Foundation

The foundation, started by Bruce and his wife Marji in 1997, is committed to supporting people who are affected by cancer. It works towards the development of treatments and cures for cancer by supporting companies, hospitals, and other organisations fighting for the same goal. An important part of their work is their annual ‘Raise the B.A.R.’ golf tournament, held in honour of Bruce Rendina. So far, the foundation has donated almost $6 million in support of its cause.
