An article in the Hartlepool Mail announced that Lyla O’Donovan, her parents, and her four brothers and sisters will be celebrating Lyla’s seventh birthday on November 28th, 2019 at their home in Ushaw Moor, County of Durham, England.
Lyla’s ordeal began when she was only three years old. The diagnosis was that she had a brain tumor. Since that time Lyla has battled numerous operations, meningitis, and hydrocephalus, which is the accumulation of fluid in the brain. This disorder typically occurs in children, may enlarge the head, and at times can cause brain damage.
Lyla has also undergone an operation to implant a shunt in her brain to relieve pressure. Time is of the essence because recently her doctor advised Lyla’s parents that they are running out of options. She will be back in the hospital for her tenth operation soon after Christmas.
The Brain Tumour Research Charity
Lyla’s parents, Kristy and Paul O’Donovan, who is a British Army corporal, are heavily involved with Brain Tumour Research, an organization that is raising awareness of the disease responsible for the highest number of deaths of people under the age of forty.
A Little Sunshine From Prince Harry
Recently Lyla received the Inspirational Child Award, presented to her by Prince Harry and his wife Megan in London. Lyla was chosen from a field of thousands of other children.
Lyla is surely an inspiration as despite her illness she and her older sister have cheered up so many sick children all over the world with ‘bravery certificates’ through the campaign Lyla and Lilley’s Stars.
Lyla’s father wants people to know how brave Lyla has been and that she never complains. He said that she is so deserving of extra love and support. Lyla has managed to bring happiness to so many others throughout the world.
Her special birthday wish has begun to materialize as she has received a few cards and support from people in the United Kingdom. Her parents are trying to be strong for Lyla and their other children.
How to Reach Lyla
The administrators at the Brain Tumor Research organization heard about Paul’s appeal and were very pleased to be one of the first to send cards to Lyla. They encourage others to follow their lead.
