Kevin Hart Gives a Hand to the Muscular Dystrophy Association As Host of the MDA Telethon

As sourced from BioSpace: After 44 years of the legendary Jerry Lewis hosting the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon to bring awareness to this disorder, his tradition will live on in a 2020 reboot. On October 24th, Kevin Hart will take the mic and launch The MDA Kevin Hart Kids Telethon. The two-hour special will be shown across the globe as Hart takes the stage with other well known names and beloved figures including Michael Jordan, Jack Black, Usain Bolt, Josh Gad,  Eva Longoria, Jillian Mercado, and others. In hopes of bringing awareness and resources to the disease, they’ll celebrate life with humor, musical performances, and interactive games played with the latest technologies. The program will include spotlights on the many faces of the disease, with personal looks at patients, health care workers, researchers.

The telethon will include not only the night of entertainment, but a following seven weeks of Esports and live gaming events. According to Biospace, Kevin Hart said,
“This is an incredible opportunity to bring the work of Jerry Lewis and the Muscular Dystrophy Association forward. I’m honored to collaborate with MDA and my organization, to educate and entertain the public about the need to support people with disabilities and disadvantages, because we are all in this together. I can’t wait to have an incredible night for two critically important causes that are in urgent need of funding and hope.”
An event of this magnitude can transform a rare disease community, which often struggles to progress due to lack of funding. All of the proceeds from this event will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which funds research for muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases. Their work over the last 70 years has been propelled innovation forward, with multiple treatments in varying levels of trials. The telethon will fund treatments for the various neuromuscular diseases, as well as MDA Care Center medical teams across the nation.
