Do Your Part to Raise Awareness for World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Day!

Friday September 7th is World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Day!

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is one of nine forms of muscular dystrophy.  Patients with DMD cannot make dystrophin in their muscles causing muscle weakness, eventually resulting in heart and respiratory weaknesses and quadriplegia. Worldwide, DMD occurs in one per 3500 male births and only one in approximately 50 million girl births. To read more about DMD, click here.

Here are some things you can, courtesy of Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy:

Jeans Day

Celebrate World Duchenne Awareness Day by hosting a Jeans Day at your school, group or office! It’s a fun way to raise some awarenesss – and funds! Click here to set up a fundraising site.

Apply for a Proclomation

Ask your state governor or town mayor to recognize World Duchenne Awareness Day on September 7 with a proclamation or have a local landmark building “GO RED” with lighting!

This is a great way to ensure that for years to come, there will be an opportunity to observe this awareness day.

Coach to Cure Tailgating

Coach To Cure MD is a partnership between the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), where one football Saturday of each season (this year it is on September 29, 2018) AFCA coaches nationwide agree to promote Coach To Cure MD.

By wearing armbands, mentioning Coach To Cure MD during on and off-field interviews, and in some instances doing even more extensive media relations around the date, coaches are rolling up their sleeves and proudly getting involved.

Host a Coach To Cure MD tailgating or watch party while your favorite college football team plays!

Show your Support by Buying Merch

Restock your family’s supply of great PPMD merchandise so that you can raise awareness all month long!

So whether you buy a T-shirt, speak to a local senator, or watch a little football, do your part to observe this day for those in the DMD community!
