This Amazing CF Momma Will Inspire You!

It is always so heartwarming to read a great story. Especially, when someone beats the odds and overcomes something tremendous.

Nicole Kelly’s parents did not think they would see their child live past 10 years of age. She was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) as an infant. Her doctor said that there was 50/50 chance she would make it to 10.

Well, guess what?

She just celebrated her 50th birthday!

She has overcome the odds, but has also paid a price. Nicole is on oxygen 24/7. She also has to have several breathing treatments and has to make sure she gets regular check ups. She has been in the hospital over 150 times as well. But she has more to deal with other than her health.

She is also a single mother to a 20-year-old daughter named Kayla.

Her daughter helps with her daily treatments. Nicole has to have percussion treatments daily to help loosen the mucus in her lungs. Her daughter has to strike her back 30 minutes to an hour, 3 times a day to help loosen the mucus. Kayla has done this for her mother since she was 8 years old. Even with all that she does she still goes to the gym two times a week to help with her strength.

Nicole also has a dream of receiving a lung transplant. She had a set back on August 22, 2013 due to being diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, the cancer was caught early, at stage zero. After her doctor reviewed her case, it was determined that the cancer had not spread, and had a very small chance of returning.

With these findings it did not crush her dream of new lungs!

Nicole hopes to get her new lungs soon. She has dreams of see Kayla walk across the stage at her college graduation. She says that she treats everyday as a gift and that you have to trust yourself and God.

I really admire Nicole. She has jumped over every obstacle that has been thrown in front of her. She has proved her doctors wrong, raised a child, and beat cancer. Having a positive attitude and loving yourself, your family, and God will take you places!
