WebMD No More? Google Stepping Up

Look out WebMD. Google’s about to leave you twitching in the dust…

Would you believe one in 20shutterstock_197310038 Google searches are health-based? Ok, yeah, probably not that far-fetched, BUT… don’t you think, seeing as how important health is, answers should be more accessible? As in you don’t have to take twenty minutes to type out your question?

You’re in luck! As of this year, Google introduced a feature within the Google app allowing users to speak directly into the microphone and get an answer in a number of seconds. Surprise you? Probably not. Google’s always innovating. Typical Google, am I right?

In response to any health-related question, users will, in response, be provided with detailed and reliable information about symptoms and treatments, including interactive graphs and illustrations.

And seeing as every single person, with or without a chronic disease, is a patient, all extremely capable of getting sick, and subsequently, wanting to get better, Google hasn’t take this public responsibility lightly. All information has been endorsed by a team of doctors and medical professionals from Google and the Mayo Clinic.

Still, that doesn’t mean you should disregard the knowledge of a medical professional. Always talk to your doctor first if you need medical advice.

Not only is this new feature expanding Google’s influence, it’s also empowering people around the world to be their own health advocates and research, research, research. You know your body better than anyone else. While you’re doctor is a prime source of information, it’s important YOU know THEY know what they’re talking about.

Technology may be the devil in some cases, but there’s no denying how life-saving it’s becoming. 100 years from now, will we even need doctors?

You can download the Google app from the App Store.
