On November 12, 2016, Present Troubles Racing will host their Hills and Hollers Half Marathon & 5K, which is intended to raise awareness about amyloidosis and funds to help support those affected by the condition.
Amyloidosis is a condition in which abnormal proteins are generated by the bone marrow and deposited in organs throughout the body. It can affect the kidneys and liver, as well as the GI tract, heart, and nervous system.
Present Troubles Racing was founded by Mitch McKee in honor of his wife, Leslie. Leslie developed primary amyloidosis following the birth of the family’s second son.
Since the onset of her systems, she has experienced chronic kidney failure, as well as nervous system and liver involvement. Leslie’s treatment has included chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant, multiple back surgeries, and a kidney transplant.
The Hills and Hollers Half Marathon & 5K will begin at 8:00am on Nov. 12 at the Burwood Community Center in Thompson’s Station, TN.
A raffle and silent auction will also take place, beginning at 6 am.
Online registration for the event is currently open but will end November 9, 2016.
Proceeds from Present Troubles Racing are split between the Amyloidosis Foundation, Secure Harbor, and the Vanderbilt Stem Cell Clinic.
