Exercising with CRPS can be beyond difficult, but I’m sure everyone from your doctor to your mother has encouraged you to do it.
Why? CRPS already causes you pain, and here people are, pushing you to engage in an activity that literally causes tearing in your muscles? How is that fair?
I guess, in truth, it’s not fair in a lot of ways. It’s not fair to be in pain and it’s not fair that you have to exercise when you’re feeling that way.
But I promise you, working out will help long-term. There are serious benefits to exercise. The trick is to achieve those benefits without causing yourself any harm.
It probably feels like that’s easier said than done, but there’s an (adorable) infographic from BurningNightsCRPS.org (shared in this article at ActiveBeat.com) that lays it all out plain and simple. This chart will step you through exercising with CRPS and limited mobility, discussing everything from your fears to your greatest feats.
It goes over:
- Exercise Tips
- Example cardiovascular, strength-building, and flexibility workouts
- How exercise helps
Plus, again, I want to reiterate that it’s adorable.
Sounds silly to emphasize, but you deserve something adorable if you’re doing your best to exercise with CRPS! I commend you for trying, for not giving up, and for always doing your best.
That achievement is your first exercise benefit—let’s go after the others!
