Albanian Father Caring For Wife With Multiple Sclerosis Threatened by Deportation

Ded Rranxburgaj, 48, currently living in Southgate, Michigan is being threatened with deportation, although his wife suffering from multiple sclerosis, reported MSN News. While fighting the deportation from every angle, Ded goes to Central United Methodist Church located in Detroit as his sanctuary. Churches and schools have been advised to agents as “sensitive locations” and encourage them not to target those specific places.

Ded is a cook, with no criminal record and has lived in the United States for 17-years-old. Him and his wife Flora, 44, are both deemed as visitors to the country, while their two children remain safe. Their oldest child is 24-years-old and is on a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, while their youngest at 15-years-old is a U.S. citizen. The recent stress on immigration regulation comes from current President Donald Trump’s, election to office.

Flora has expressed many times that she cannot live without the assistance of her husband Ded. He is her ultimate caretaker as she is confined to a wheelchair today. She cannot shower or even get dressed on her own and the thought of Ded being deported makes her worry for her family and her life.

Ded was able to stay in the states for so long under the humanitarian status since his wife has been ill for so long. Yet, when new immigration regulations came into play this last October, the fight has been on. He has tried everything, working to get his citizenship and applying for political asylum due to government changes back in their home of Albania. They are currently waiting to hear back from officials regarding the recent application. Right now, Flora is able to stay in the U.S. because of her illness.

Many churches have come together during this time, despite different beliefs, to support and protect immigrants who need help. Many have opened up their spaces and continue to fight alongside these families that desperately need it.
