According to Queenstown Research Week, AWCBR, and QMB will be hosting a satellite event in August. The event will center on rare brain diseases, bringing together a group of dedicated researchers and speakers. The New Zealand Organisation for Rare Disorders (NZORD) will also be awarding prizes for student presentations. Keep reading to learn more, or follow the original story here for more information.
When and Where?
The satellite event is scheduled to take place on August 30th and 31st of 2018. The Rydges Hotel in Wellington New Zealand will host the joint event between AWCBR and QMB.
Topics of Discussion
The satellite is set to unite researchers from all across New Zealand on issues regarding rare brain disease research. Specifically, disease linked to genetic factors will be the focus of the event. Sessions will be held covering such areas of research as animal models, cellular models, and diseases mechanisms. Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend sessions about “the patient journey,” and clinical trials. Discussion on newly developed therapies and techniques is also expected to be presented. An impressive list of speakers and presenters has been assembled from various areas of research, and includes those working with patient registries, tissue banks, and genomic research.
Student Prizes
NZORD is providing awards for the best student presentation at the satellite event. One $250 prize will be awarded for “Best Student Talk,” and another $250 prize awarded for “Best Student Poster Presentation.”
These awards will be announced during the end of the satellite event on August 31st. Presentations will be given at the Queenstown Satellite Meeting on Rare Brain Diseases. Presentations are to be judged by Dr. Stephanie Hughes of University of Otago and NZORD’s Chief Executive, Dr. Collette Bromhead. NZORD describes the purpose of these sponsored awards as wanting to recognize the future. It is their wish to encourage students to continue pursuing these areas of research, interest, and aid by awarding these prizes.
