Scholarships are being provided to rare disease patients, thanks to the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases. The scholarships are each worth $5,000 and are intended for those seeking an education or job training. In its entirety, the grant is worth $185,000, meaning that 35 patients will receive money.
About the Scholarships
The scholarships are now open for applications. The only requirements are that you are affected by a rare disease – a condition affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the U.S. – and planning to take a minimum of one course, whether virtual or in-person, at a technical school or accredited college/university. You must also be at least 17 years old.
To submit an application, go here. All applications will be considered, and applicants must write a 300 to 400-word essay that focuses on how the money will aid in leadership in the future. In addition, the EveryLife Foundation will consider prior academics, financial need, work experience, leadership experience, and participation in activities throughout the community and school. A diagnosis verification form and transcript of grades are also needed.
The award is not renewable, but winners are free to reapply every year. As rare disease patients often face obstacles like countless doctor’s appointments and expensive treatments, it can be difficult for them to afford education or training. The EveryLife Foundation hopes that this scholarship will help patients realize their dreams and start a career.
