Here’s a heartbreaking story out of the UK that reminds us never to take anything in life for granted. A young mother with two children, Saffron Taylor, was recently diagnosed with a severe form of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS).
Unlike some patients who’ve battled the disease since childhood, Saffron is struggling to come to grips with the near-constant dislocation of her joints.
Tasks most of us take for granted—like dressing, preparing a meal, or going to the bathroom—can leave Saffron in incredible pain or send her on a trip to the hospital.
But probably the worst part is how the disease impacts her children.
“A cuddle from my kids is enough to leave my shoulder dislocated,”
Saffron says. As her condition rapidly declines, she’s had no choice but to start a liquid diet—chewing could dislocate her jaw—and a regimen of morphine and other medications to manage her pain.
By sharing her story, Saffron hopes to educate others about Ehlers-Danlos and get them to recognize the signs and symptoms earlier.
Beyond raising awareness, her top goal is spending as much time with her children as possible.
