A bird? A plane? It’s Super Moms with Sickle Cell Anemia!

Leathia Boyd is a 38-year-old woman, mother, and wife living with sickle cell anemia. She’s also an advocate and has been one for more than six years.

It all started when she joined an online support group, but felt there was not a community specifically for women. So, Leathia founded the nonprofit organization Super Moms with Sickle Cell. It is a group full of women and mothers who have the disease.

She created a community where mothers could express themselves freely. It’s a place where women are not judged for what they are going through and how they feel.

Super Moms with Sickle Cell goes beyond online conversations.

The small group works together to raise awareness about sickle cell anemia. Also, Leathia wants the group to provide the support system women need. For example, when mothers are admitted to the hospital, the organization provides a place for their children to stay over night. Even when she is sick, it is her mission to help mothers in need.

This is the only organization in the United States that focuses solely on mothers living with sickle cell anemia.

Super Moms with Sickle Cell is celebrating its third anniversary. These moms strive to spread the word about the disease and do their part for women, especially in the black community.
