Fabulous FH Partnership is Bringing Awareness to Familial Hypercholesterolemia

How does one raise awareness? Shouting on the street corner might work for a few hundred, or maybe even a few thousand, depending on how busy the corner is that you choose. Creating a viral video or utilizing the internet is certainly an option in the 21st century. However, there is a much older method. Celebrity partnership. Getting a famous person or group on your side to talk about your organization can get a lot of people talking about it.

That’s exactly what the people at the FH Foundation are doing with BMC Racing to raise awareness of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH).

Earlier this year, the FH Foundation and the professional cycling team based in California announced their partnership just before the United States of America’s biggest cycling event—the Tour of California. It seems fitting that the foundation for a disease that causes premature coronary disease and early heart attacks is partnering with a cycling team, as cycling is such as widely regarded low impact form of exercise.

Don’t be fooled though, the members of BMC Racing train hard and race hard. The team was formed in 2007 by Swiss cycling company BMC. The team has tallied hundreds of race victories and stage wins in multi-stage races. The team includes several world renowned cyclists.

Familial hypercholesterolemia is a rare condition that results in high cholesterol among relatives. Cholesterol is used by the body to help it digest certain parts of our diet. However, excessive cholesterol can result in numerous problems throughout the body.

With the celebrity status of BMC Racing on their side, the FH Foundation is hopeful that more people will be tested for this condition and many preventable cardiac conditions can be treated before they become problems.
