Host of The Living Room Shares Multiple Myeloma Experience

Barry Du Bois, presenter of the The Living Room, announced six months that his struggle with cancer continued. Despite six years living with cancer in remission, multiple myeloma returned to haunt the 57-year-old host. “I don’t like to admit it,” Du Bois said, “but I was scared this time around.” Keep reading to learn more, and follow the original source for additional details.

Du Bois faced a diagnosis of plasmacytoma myeloma in 2016. Successful rounds of chemotherapy seemed to take care of the immune system cancer. Even after seemingly successful treatment, however, Du Bois developed multiple myeloma.

Du Bois announced the diagnosis to fans last October. He described the cancer returning as “reasonably aggressively.”

Multiple myeloma is a form a cancer that develops in the white blood cells known as plasma cells. Overtime, multiple myeloma causes cancer to develop in the bone marrow. Healthy blood cells wind up crowded out by cancerous cells. The body produces abnormal antibodies as a result of the myeloma cells. Click here for additional information about multiple myeloma.

After multiple rounds of chemotherapy, Du Bois returned to The Living Room. Since then he has spoken candidly about his battle with cancer and the treatment process. He says he was truly scared going through the process this time. He’s described a health plan he views as life-changing. The prognosis Du Bois received after treatment should estimate about five to 10 years but he aims to double it.

Du Bois credits his health and lifestyle changes for much of his recovery and continued wellness. He even authored a book with his co-host called Life Force about his experiences and choices. The book compiles many stories, pieces of advice, and a good number of recipes. Du Bois said the book comes from wanting to share the knowledge he discovered during his cancer journey.

“I got my children there, and I’m nearly 58 years old, and I wanted to get down some of the life lessons that I’ve learnt, but also combine that with the great information that we’re privvy to,” said Du Bois.

Du Bois added that everyone’s cancer journey is different. What he’s offering is what worked for him. He hopes it will help some people along the way.
