Jaime’s Story: Invasive Lobular Carcinoma

Jaime’s Story: Invasive Lobular Carcinoma

“Fate whispers to the warrior, ‘You cannot withstand the storm.’ The warrior whispers back, ‘I am the storm.” -Jake Remington

This is Jaime Gibbons’ favorite quote. While going through her healthcare journey, she found inspiration within this quote to continue her fight against invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC). That’s a type of breast cancer that begins as a growth of cells in the milk-producing glands of the breast, called lobules.

“Invasive” means that the cancer cells have broken out of the lobule where they began and have spread into the breast tissue. The cells have the potential to spread to the lymph nodes and other areas of the body. During the course of her treatment, Jaime had to have 32 lymph nodes removed from her left breast.

Jaime believes that early detection saved her life and would like for others to learn from her experiences as a cancer survivor. Thank you so much to Jaime for sharing her inspiring story!
