Crystal first started noticing abscesses on her skin around age 11, and was officially diagnosed with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) at age 13. HS is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that causes painful, boil-like lumps to appear in and under the skin. From such a young age, Crystal dealt with isolation and embarrassment due to the gossip about her appearance from those around her. For a long time, she retreated and felt the need to cover up due to fear of rejection. It wasn’t until Crystal was 28 years old that she met another person living with HS.
Today, Crystal shares her tips and tricks via her social media pages to help others who are navigating HS. She creates a space where individuals can feel seen and heard, and encourages others that they can be the hero of their stories. Crystal hopes to raise awareness and stop the stigma, and has become an advocate for all individuals struggling with HS. She encourages others to live their full lives and be their authentic selves, without hiding behind their diagnosis.
