Robbie Elliot’s family, who reside in South Shields, England describes him as a perfect boy with a bubbly personality, always giving, and with a special love of music. According to an article in the Daily Star, a few weeks ago Robbie’s doctors, suspecting a mild infection, recommended that he be given Calpol which is a pediatric medication for children that offers relief from fever and pain.
Robbie’s symptoms became more severe. Several weeks later a scan showed a lump that the doctors said was osteomyelitis, a treatable but rare bone infection. Additional symptoms brought additional tests, this time revealing cysts on Robbie’s kidneys. Robbie was transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where a tumor was detected.
The family was informed that Robbie had clear cell sarcoma, which is treatable. However, Robbie eventually developed tumors on his heart, kidneys, stomach, and brain. This time it was diagnosed as widespread undifferentiated mesenchymal cancer. Robbie died the day after receiving this diagnosis.
A Family and a City in Mourning
Robbie died May 21st in his mother’s arms. His mother, Kayleigh Johnston, and his step-dad, Corey Wilson have been receiving tributes to Robbie, messages, and donations from the entire community.
Robbie is survived by his sister, age 6, and his brother Alfie age 2.
So many have written to the parents offering their thoughts and prayers. Many have acknowledged their pain and heartache. Robbie’s short life will be memorialized.
