What Happens When Acromegaly is Right In Front of Your Nose?

When is acromegaly like a scene from a movie? I know it’s a stretch, but bear with me.
I rarely go to the movies, you know, in a movie theater. I’m more likely to wait until something hits one of the streaming channels. I’ve seen the first 10 minutes of hundreds of movies; I figure if the cinematography hasn’t reeled me in by then, I’m wasting my time.

The funny thing is: When I get past that iffy time period, I’ll doggedly keep watching. No matter how awful the writing is, or how shaky the camera. And all of it sticks to my brain like hot tar.

So, I was reading an article about acromegaly, and all of a sudden a scene from a movie flashed before my eyes. The plot centered around the theft of a huge diamond, and of course the cops and robbers driving around in insanely fast cars. The diamond is recovered, but the crooks came back for it; only they never found it.

The trick ending? The diamond was hidden in the midst of a crystal chandelier, ablaze with sparkles, while they ransacked the room.

Acromegaly can be like that: Right there in front of your nose, but unnoticed until it’s advanced. The condition causes abnormal growth, and when it occurs in someone who hasn’t reached maturity, it can result in the person becoming extremely tall.
