The Congress backed 21st Century Cures Act will be making its way to the House or Representatives’ desks this week. After receiving a 51-0 unanimous vote from the The House Energy and Commerce Committee, the act is making strides, but remains controversial.

On one side, prominent advocacy groups and supporters of the act, Friends of Cancer Research, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, and the popular site Mayo Clinic have shown support for the quicker introduction of treatment for diseases. On the other hand, opponents believe the high cost of the bill and the looser guidelines of clinical trials may be detrimental in the long-term.
