This Man with Cystic Fibrosis Exercises His Way Out of the Hospital

People mostly know that cystic fibrosis (CF) causes issues with the lungs—to the point of breathing difficulty.

Contrary to common assumptions, cystic fibrosis also affects the pancreas, making it difficult for the body to digest foods. As a result, gaining weight can be challenging.

One of the last things someone would think of when thinking of cystic fibrosis is body-building.

Body-building takes extreme dedication. Body builders spend countless hours at the gym and follow a strict diet. Gym clothes make up the majority of their wardrobe, and finding new ways to make working out more efficient takes up most of their time.

Now, meet the person conquering it all!

His name is Ben, and he is doing things that would shock most people. Ben has been living with cystic fibrosis since birth and had surgery when he was less than three days old. It’s not ideal, but thankfully, his only major concern as a child was not gaining enough weight. Outside of a few scares, Ben lived a relatively normal life, playing organized sports and acting like your typical boy.

At age 18, his life did change, starting with his health. He was hospitalized for two weeks with an IV and no one was really sure what had changed—until Ben realized that it was lack of exercise.

After dabbling in a few other career fields, personal training turned out to be the best choice for him.

Today, he enjoys working out and motivating people to do the same—add in eating a healthy diet, and you’ve got the regimen that’s keeping Ben out of the hospital.

Personally, I find Ben very inspirational. Once again, diet and exercise has proven to be very effective with a person’s overall health and well-being.
