New Research May Help Those with MS to Walk Again

Good news for patients suffering from neurological disorders that may have taken away their ability to walk.
Multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, stroke and other diseases can often lead to paralysis.

But according to a study in Science Transitional Medicine, scientists have come up with an algorithm for a robotic harness that will help patients move naturally in all directions. This overcomes most therapy limitations with those with paralysis, as current therapies are typically too rigid to mimic natural movements.

Two additional challenges of therapy that this algorithm can help overcome, are that in patients with neurological disorders, the nervous system has forgotten how to move correctly, and patients have also likely lost muscle mass from not moving.

This algorithm can change physical therapy going forward, and perhaps wheelchairs could become a thing of the past for the millions of patients suffering from paralysis. To read more, click here.
