Growing up, my brother and I had a fun playhouse in our backyard with a huge slide and swings. We had the best times on that playhouse, playing games together and spending time outside. Many children have had similar playhouses, and many parents can take it for granted when their children can spend time outside together.
Unfortunately, the Courtney family has not had the same privilege. They have three children, including Lily, who is a normal, sparkling 7-year-old, except for her cerebral palsy and dystonia.
Cerebral palsy is a rare neurological movement disorder that leads to a lack of muscle control. Dystonia further causes involuntary muscle contractions. Neither cerebral palsy nor dystonia have cures, so Lily ended up getting an extra special early Christmas present this year.
With the help of local Texan businesses, the Make-A-Wish Foundation was able to create a special new outdoor playhouse for Lily with wheelchair-accessible ramps, slides, and swings.
Now, Lily can play outside with her siblings like a normal kid. I’m sure that the times they have together are worth more than any gift Lily or her family could ever get.
