19-Year-Old With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Checks Off His Bucketlist

19-year-old Jonathan Inkin created a “20-strong” bucket list with intention to cross them all off before his birthday. Thanks to the help of celebrity Toff (Georgia Toffolo), the winner of I’m a Celebrity, Jonathan is well on his way to making it happen, reports DevonLive. Beyond his list, there are tons of awesome experiences he is hoping to check off during his lifetime: sing with a celebrity, do a 20-mile trek with his wheelchair, write a blog, do an online Q&A regarding his condition, find a positive celebrity advocate to help bring awareness, sing with James Corden on Carpool Karaoke and even appear on This Morning.

Toff helped him check off his bucket list item which started as, “sing to 20,000 people” to bring awareness and advocacy to his condition. Toff saw his video and goal, and instantly sent him a video of inspiration. That video not only contributed to Jonathan reaching his goal, but greatly surpassing it causing the video to go viral. He quickly had to revise his goal to 200,000, to make it something he had to work a little harder to achieve.

Yet, he most definitely brought his disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)– a rare genetic condition that deteriorates a patient’s muscle– to the forefront and hopes to only continue the grow upon it. To learn more about about DMD, click here.

The video has now more than 40k views and counting, and it all started with his mom posting on Facebook and sharing his goal with her friends. Through this, he also wants to share love and optimism to those who are also experiencing the same disease. Singing is therapy for Jonathan, as his journey hasn’t been easy. He slowly lost his ability to walk when he was 11-years-old and more recently lost his ability to use his arms. He’s dealt with a lot of physical pain, undergone surgeries and experienced lots of anxiety over the years. Yet, singing helps him calm down, stay optimistic and look ahead, living his life to the utmost fullest while helping others experiencing the same thing.
