Desperate Housewives Actress Marcia Cross Says She Feels “Liberated” After Sharing Her Battle with Anal Cancer

Actress Marcia Cross, best known for her role as Bree Van de Kamp on Desperate Housewives, has shared that she is now healthy after battling anal cancer in a series of Instagram posts.

Marcia shared a selfie of herself on Instagram, with the caption “So grateful and happy to be alive but sad that my hair fell out and is about 1 inch long now and looks cra cra. Anyone else have #hairloss due to #cancer? Talk to me. I feel you.” She quickly clarified that she is now post-cancer in a second post, saying, “Hard journey, but I am HEALTHY, happy, and more present and grateful than ever,” and thanking fans for their support and love.

She followed up with another post where she talked about how freeing it was to post about her experiences on social media. “After posting a picture of myself here and uttering the words #cancer and #hairloss, I feel liberated, deliriously free and completely me.” She continued, “I certainly wasn’t expecting the response of love and kindness that flowed to me,” and shared that “if you were wondering, I had #analcancer”, saying, “I know, right?!” She ended the post by thanking her fans again for their support, and for sharing their own personal struggles with cancer and hair loss.

About Anal Cancer

Anal cancer is a rare type of cancer that, according to the American Cancer Society, will be diagnosed in just over 8,500 people in the United States in 2018. There are several types of anal cancer, and often the symptoms can be similar to other more common and less serious conditions, such as anal fissures or haemorrhoids. Even though anal cancer is rare, the NHS advises people with any of the symptoms associated with it to visit their doctor to get them checked out.
