Could You “Be The Match?” Help Save the Life of a Woman with Leukemia

According to a story from Wind River Wellness Cancer Retreat & Programs, a young woman named Lauren who had previously attended sessions at the retreat center has been living with leukemia going on four years. Now, she needs help in order to have a good chance of recovery. Lauren has utilized a variety of treatment methods for her cancer, including a stem cell transplant. Now, she needs to get a second one.

The difficulty for Lauren now is finding a suitable, un-related donor, and it could be you. In order to find a donor, Lauren has signed up with the Be The Match registry. This registry is an organization that connects patients that need stem cell transplants with willing donors that are suitable match. Being a donor isn’t necessarily effortless, but signing up with Be The Match means that you could save the life of a patient like Lauren. The process is simple: if you successfully sign up and satisfy the necessary requirements (there is a specified age range, for example), then the registry will send you a DNA swab kit directly to your door. The process is completely anonymous and you can remove yourself from the registry database whenever you wish.

The reality is that Lauren is just one of many patients that need stem cell transplants and are seeking a donor. However, this doesn’t mean that you are going to be contacted to donate immediately after signing up. It can take years before you are contacted, and not all Be The Match members wind up donating.

Be The Match is a great website for information on stem cell transplants as well. Thanks for reading this far and thank you to all that have provided so much support these last few years. I believe in the power of prayer and have witnessed first hand prayers answer. I please ask that you pray I find a donor for this 2nd transplant. Much love to all!
