Veteran with Ankylosing Spondylitis Creates Video Game for Those in Quarantine

Nate Peters is an air force veteran, and he also lives with ankylosing spondylitis. This means that he knows what it’s like to spend a lot of time in the hospital. He also knows about the pass times that make the hospital more bearable, and he has his own personal favorite: video games. This is why he teamed up with his daughter to create a video game for children who spend a lot of time in the hospital.

About Ankylosing Spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a disorder that causes inflammation in the spine that may spread to other body parts. Symptoms include inflammation of the hips, eyes, knees, shoulders, and joints of the spine and ribs. This inflammation can make breathing and other movements difficult, and issues with the eyes can lead to vision loss. In a small number of cases, the nervous system, lungs, and heart are affected. In terms of a cause, medical professionals believe that a number of environmental and genetic reasons are behind AS. The exact cause is unknown, but there have been multiple genes linked to the disorder. Biologics and NSAIDs are used to treat AS, but a special diet and exercise routine have both been proven to reduce the symptoms.

About the Video Game

Peters’ game was inspired by his daughter, Araceli. It happened when she was sitting at the table, drawing little doodles. It was then that Peters got the idea for Doodle, the main character of the game. He is an artist on a mission to retrieve his stolen magical crayon.

The game was developed to be played on the NES console after raising money on the platform Kickstarter. The money will be used to get the game to children in hospitals surrounding San Antonio, Texas, where the Peters are from.

Both Nate and his daughter are happy that they could help children in hospitals, especially since they know what it’s like. He hopes that his game will be able to relieve some stress and get their minds off of any negativity.
