March 9: CureDuchenne to Host “Champions in Miami” Event

In 2020, Chris and Susan Finazzo received news that would change the trajectory of their lives. They learned that their sons Chase (now 9) and Dylan (now 6) had a rare genetic disorder called Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a multi-systemic condition that causes progressive muscle loss and it is considered one of the more severe forms of muscular dystrophy. Driven to help their sons, and to work towards a cure, the Finnazos connected with CureDuchenne.

CureDuchenne, a Patient Worthy partner, is a leading nonprofit organization and global leader dedicated to advancing research and patient care, and improving the lives of families affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Through its efforts, CureDuchenne has contributed to early funding for the first FDA-approved therapy for DMD and is consistently working towards a cure. The Finazzo family knew that they wanted to join this mission and discover a cure: not just for Chase and Dylan, but for all people living with Duchenne across the globe.

As CureDuchenne shared in a press release, CureDuchenne and the Finazzo family are coming together to host the “Champions in Miami” event this Saturday, March 9, 2024, in Miami Beach.

CureDuchenne’s “Champions in Miami” Event

“Champions in Miami” will take place at the Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel on March 9 from 6:00-10:00pm. During this fantastic night, attendees can eat delicious food, jam out in their 80s beach outfits, and watch amazing live entertainment while joining Miami’s leading business leaders and philanthropists in a fight to transform the DMD landscape. Chris Finazzo is one of the chairs and he cannot wait for the event. “Champions in Miami” has the potential to raise significant funds that can be used to fund research and treatment development. As the event page shares:

This gala is not just an exquisite gathering; it serves as a significant source of support for CureDuchenne, empowering the organization to invest in cutting-edge research aimed at discovering a cure for individuals facing Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Thanks to the immense generosity of the Miami community, Champions in Miami has already channeled more than $2 million into research and support for families living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy since 2021.
