Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a disorder in which nerve-muscle communication is interrupted and causes muscle weakness, especially
in the arms and legs. Myasthenic crisis is when there is an acute, severe weakness of the muscles that causes them not to work; in
these cases, medications, treatment to filter the blood, and possibly mechanical ventilation might be needed. The muscle weakness
can be restored some with rest, but symptoms will progress over time. Other symptoms of MG include double vision, drooping
eyelids, and difficulties speaking, chewing, swallowing, and breathing. There is currently no cure for MG.1 MG is more common in
women under 40 years old and men older than 60 years, but it can occur in people of any age. Individuals living with MG are more
likely to have autoimmune diseases and under- or overactive thyroid.1 The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America provides a
support network for those with MG, awareness initiatives, support for research, professional education and tools for clinicians, and
more.

This report showcases the most recent themes discussed over the past 6 months in a social media community dedicated to MG
and we also looked at 2 public subreddits focused on the condition. We aim to amplify the voices of those living with MG to shed
light on their experiences to drive action and improved outcomes. TREND is proud to have partnered with the Myasthenia Gravis
Support Group “Patients, Family, and Friends” on this important work.
