An Update from the Dravet Syndrome Foundation

Madrid, June 5th, 2026

The Dravet Syndrome Foundation received the Merck Innovation Talent Award for a scientific publication regarding a tool that assesses neuropsychiatric issues associated with the disease.

The award-winning work can be read here. The project involved international participation from European clinical experts and was led by the Dravet Syndrome Foundation through its scientific director, Simona Giorgi.

DANCE enables the early detection of comorbidities—such as cognitive delay and sleep or behavioral problems—that significantly impact families’ quality of life, while also improving communication between caregivers and healthcare professionals. The pilot study, conducted with families in Spain, France, and Belgium, demonstrates that the tool is “useful, clear, easy to complete, and relevant to daily clinical practice,” according to the Foundation.
