IPF Advice That Speaks to the Heart

Quite possibly, one of the most challenging attitudes to embrace is self-compassion. It should be easy enough to adopt simple self-love into our lives, but it truly is where the rubber meets the road.

This is where we show up for ourselves and accept when we make mistakes and let go of punishing ourselves for not being perfect—especially after hearing an idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) diagnosis.

We deserve all the love, joy, and support in the world and the way to receive that from others is to give it to ourselves first.

We all have those voices that tell us we’re not good enough or that if we only had “xyz” we would be happy.

Depending on our own programming, those voices might be a daily reality.

If so, it’s important to get a handle on them as quickly as possible because they are keeping our life small.

When we’re caught up in a limiting thought spiral, just like visualizing the health declining moments of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, we may need to do ourselves a favor—pause and replace those thoughts with something positive.

Being kind to ourselves is totally underrated.

I’m talking about radical kindness—not just buying myself flowers and calling it a great act of self-care. Cultivating a practice of radical kindness creates a ripple effect that changes every relationship in our lives.

We’re living in a time when compassion is the currency needed in order to live a life rich with meaning. We have to be kind to ourselves no matter what.

So, I have one bit of parting advice: Let’s be fierce in our willingness to bring light into the dark areas of our lives and practice compassion for our tender hearts— no matter what.
