Do you live in the United States?

Are you an adult? (Meaning, are you older than 18? Whether or not you have your life together does not apply to this question. Let’s be real, no body has their life together).

Do you have a diagnosis of Behcet’s disease/syndrome?

Yes? No? Maybe? (Source: giphy)

Have those painful, stupid mouth ulcers visited you at least three times this past year?

Then you, my friend, may be able to join this study testing a new medicine to treat those awful mouth ulcers!

Unfortunately, there are some restrictions on who can join.

If you:

  • are considering getting pregnant,
  • are currently pregnant,
  • are participating in a different clinical trial,
  • have just finished a clinical trial, or
  • have major organs currently affected by Behcet’s,

then you won’t be allowed to join.

It was that last one that prevented me from joining. Thank you, chronic uveitis, for being a constant source of pain in my life.

Though, to be fair, ulcers have been the least of my problems with Behcet’s.

I’m lucky that, when I get them, I usually only get a couple at a time. Still, I know how painful those few are. I can’t imagine how people get along with more.

For those people, this study could be a great opportunity.

We all know colchicine is the standard medicine for ulcers. And while it works for some people, it doesn’t work for everyone.

This study drug has the added benefit of being in a pill form. I know a lot of second-line treatments can be infusions or self-injections.

But two pills, twice a day? Heck, just add ’em to the pile!

After an initial visit to confirm eligibility and explain the details of the trial, you would be responsible for 13 visits over the course of 64 weeks and one visit four weeks after the final treatment dose.
