The Truth About Obesity Revealed in Cushing Disease

I watched a very cool video that follows one woman’s quest to finally get the answers she needs. Ultimately, it led to her diagnosis and subsequent treatment for Cushing’s disease.

People said the woman, a practicing attorney, was crazy or that her obesity was her own fault. Now she sets people straight: she WAS following a diet of about 1300 calories a day instead of stuffing her face at night in secret. In other words, BACK OFF, PEOPLE! I’m fat because have Cushing’s disease! I’ve got two tumors on my pituitary gland!

You go girl! And to anyone who has these symptoms, please, please see your doctor! Why? Because even if you don’t have a tumor on your pituitary gland (which is THE cause of Cushing’s disease) you could have Cushing’s syndrome, which is actually caused by a host of other conditions because your body is producing too much cortisol.

But what I’d dying to know is WHAT HAPPENED to the young woman after she was treated?! The video doesn’t follow up but rather continues on briefly to another young man’s story, a man who is equally obese and is getting ready for bariatric surgery. So it’s like we’re left dangling in the wind.
