Diamond Blackfan anemia (DBA) sounds like the villainous star of an action movie, but it’s not.
It’s an extremely rare blood disorder wherein the bone marrow doesn’t make enough red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body. It affects only five out of 1,000,000 children globally. So don’t be surprised if you’ve never heard of it.
For parents of children with this uber rare disorder, raising awareness about DBA is critical in the development of new treatments and raising research dollars.
One little girl in Fort Worth, Texas, has put her lip syncing skills out there, in collaboration with the Fort Worth Police Department and the Fire Department of Fort Worth. They have created a charming video to raise money for this (Fort) Worthy cause. Once you watch it, you, too, can be one of “Hallie’s Heroes.”
For more information, visit the Diamond Blackfan Anemia Foundation. They provide many different resources as well as hosting a summer camp for kids with the disorder.
