The recall involves one lot of 30 mg thyroid tablets identified by lot number 504950. The medication was distributed across the United States to the company’s direct customers between January 31 and September 30, 2025.
Health officials warn that tablets containing excessive amounts of thyroid hormone could trigger symptoms associated with hyperthyroidism, a condition characterized by an overactive thyroid gland. Potential effects may include unintended weight loss, sensitivity to heat, increased fatigue, nervousness, muscle weakness, elevated blood pressure, chest discomfort, rapid heartbeat, and cardiac rhythm abnormalities.
Certain populations may face a greater risk of complications, including older adults, pregnant individuals, and infants, making prompt awareness of the recall particularly important for healthcare providers and patients caring for vulnerable groups.
According to the FDA, approximately 3,655 units from the affected lot were released for distribution, with 1,955 units ultimately sold.
Vitruvias Therapeutics has begun contacting wholesalers and distributors, instructing them to halt further distribution of the recalled product and coordinate its disposal. The medication is commonly prescribed for hypothyroidism, a disorder in which the thyroid does not produce sufficient hormone.
At the time of the recall announcement, the company reported that it had not received any adverse event reports linked to the affected tablets.
