A New Children’s Book Released to Fight Sickle Cell Anemia

“Breaking The Sickle” is the name of a new children’s book. At first glance, you might think it is about destroying communist regimes, it is in fact a book about a scientist waging war against sickle cell anemia.

Dr. Yvette Fay Francis-McBarnette devoted her life to improve the quality of life of patietns who had sickle cell anemia. She was a major contributor in groundbreaking research that led to policies enacted by President Nixon.

This book could not have been produced without the support of Melanin Origins LLC and their partnership with the Sickle Cell Disease Association of North Texas (SCDANT). SCDANT spreads awareness of sickle cell anemia, hosts blood drives, and funds research. The organization also provides programs that support patients with a financial need due to the cost of having sickle cell anemia.

“Breaking The Sickle” will bring hope to the children reading it and 25 percent of the profits will be donated to the cause!

Educating kids, raising awareness, AND a clever fundraiser? Sound like a perfect combination to me!
