We recently read an article in Health News and Information that connected two conditions we weren’t expecting to read about together.
Scientists have discovered a potential link between rheumatoid arthritis. The researchers were surprised, as the conditions are very different. Rhemuatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes pain and swelling in the joints, while Huntington’s is a rare and fatal disorder caused by a genetic mutation. The overlap was revealed in research about epigenetics. Epigenetics is the study of changes in organisms caused by alteration of genetic structure, rather than alteration of the genetic code itself– essentially signals that turn certain genes “on” or “off.”
