Watch: The View Welcomes Girl Fighting Glioblastoma to Show

We here at Patient Worthy shine a spotlight on rare diseases, but these disorders often get overlooked by much of the media. So anytime a rare disease is discussed out in the mainstream, we really want to celebrate it.

Earlier this week, the hosts of the View welcomed 21-year-old Lexi Caviston to their table; Lexi is battling glioblastoma.

What is Glioblastoma?

Glioblastoma is a rare type of astrocytoma, a cancer that forms in the brain from star-shaped astrocyte cells. While this cancer usually begins in the cerebrum in adults, glioblastoma tumors are capable of making their own blood supply, which helps them grow. Thus, they are usually highly malignant.

The median life expectancy for someone diagnosed with glioblastoma is 15-16 months.

The View

For any fans of the View or observant Patient Worthy readers, you might recall that View cohost Meghan McCain’s father – political titan John McCain – is also battling glioblastoma, which makes this conversation all the more personal.

But Lexi did share some good news!

“I got the entire tumor taken out in December, and then I did 6 weeks of proton radiation and Temodal – which is the chemo pill…and then I had a completely clean MRI March 30th!”

Rocking an Optune cap as part of her treatment, Lexi embodied the grace and good attitude that no doubt had an impact on her journey.
