A pie to the face?! Yes, you heard right!
Saturday, June 30th is Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) awareness day!
It is our duty here at Patient Worthy to shine a light on the rare diseases that don’t often get discussed – and AMC is certainly one of them!
Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita refers to the development of multiple joint contractures affecting two or more areas of the body prior to birth.
A contracture occurs when a joint becomes permanently fixed in a bent or straightened position, which can impact the function and range of motion of the joint and may lead to muscle atrophy.
AMC is not a specific diagnosis, but rather a physical symptom that can be associated with many different medical conditions.
Two of the most common forms of AMC are amyoplasia and a group of genetic disorders called the distal arthrogryposes.

So…back to this whole pie business!
The Arthrogryposis Multplex Congenita Support Inc. (AMCSI) sponsors the AMC Pie Challenge – which is also called the ArthroPIEposis Challenge!
Similar to the ALS ice bucket challenge, the ArthroPIEposis Challenge is an activity involving the tossing of a pie in someone’s face either by another person or self-administered, to promote AMC awareness and donations.
