PH Sensor Could Help Confront Cystic Fibrosis

If you have cystic fibrosis, you might know that it is linked to low PH levels.

The current PH sensors aren’t sensitive enough to capture molecules at different stages called protonation states. Well, not anymore! The University of Toronto has developed a new sensor that is not only more accurate, but non-invasive.

What does this mean?

It could foster a better understanding in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases that are effected by PH levels such as cystic fibrosis and cancer. In the short term, it will be used in medical imaging. But researchers hope to eventually apply this new sensor to food studies, environmental studies and biology.
