When you have a chronic illness, “wild” nights tend to become a thing of the past. No more late nights at the club, hanging out until midnight in the middle of the week, or ignoring any concept of a bedtime…
To say it takes time to adjust to living with a chronic illness, like Behçet’s, is an understatement. But eventually, you do, and sometimes you can even view those changes with a sense of humor.
So, here’s my take on a typical week of “wild” living with Behçet’s disease, but really, it could apply to many rare diseases.
Stock-Up Sunday
Meal prepping and planning what you’re wearing this week because THIS IS THE WEEK you’re going to put that disease in its place!
Malaise Monday
Sprawling on the couch after work, marathoning a reality show you don’t really like because you’re exhausted and the remote is just too far away. Besides, who feels good on a Monday, anyway?
Turned Up Tuesday
Turning up your nose at the healthy meal you laboriously prepared on Sunday because the nausea’s saying, “Not a chance in hell!” and eating cereal instead… like an adult!
Wiped Out Wednesday
Falling asleep on the floor at 9PM because your bed is too far away and you just can’t even fathom that you have to get through two more days of work…
Throwback Thursday
Throwing back pills because you just want your body to stop killing you- literally- and getting a notification that you’ve been tagged in a photo of you and your friends having a blast–before you got sick and they disappeared. Just rub some salt into that wound, “friend.”
Friday Flare Day
“Going out to the club?” HAHAHA… Only if that club is my bed and the guest list is me!
Social-ish Saturday
After spending the entire day dozing, you almost have enough energy to meet up with friends. At least you know the night will be cheap because you can’t really drink with all the meds you’re on!
