Two Sisters Come Together to Fight Sickle Cell Anemia

Many sisters may play pranks or bicker with each other often. According to ABC 11 News, Twelve-year-old Natalia and fourteen-year-old Nyasia Yarrell are no different.

One minute they are mad at each other, then the next they are joking around like best friends. They do not even remember what they may have been mad about because they are busy laughing together.

Unfortunately, there are times when Nyasia may have a hard time laughing because of sickle cell anemia.

Nyasia stated that the sickle cell feels as if hundreds of small needles are poking all around her. Sickle cell anemia prevents her from doing many things in life. Nyasia is at risk for stroke and never knows when a major one will occur. She has wanted to go horseback riding, but with the disease that may not happen.

Nyasia has been getting blood transfusions regularly to combat her sickle cell anemia. Now, her sister has given her new hope. Once Natalia learned she was a 100% match, she agreed to be Nyasia’s bone marrow donor. There was no hesitation and Natalia knew this was what she wanted to do.

Nyasia jokingly states that her main reservation is that her sister could use this against her one day in the future when they bicker.

Nyasia and her family want you to know that you can help other people with sickle cell anemia by donating blood or registering to be a bone marrow donor.
